tablets, mobile phones, snacks, water bottles etc. these acts were not just timely but gave us lot of moral
support in sustaining the fight against COVID especially during the first few months.
Me and……..2021
My first experience involving a natural disaster was in 1992 when Tsunami struck parts of India. I went
with my surgeon husband and a couple of friends and spent a whole week along the east coast setting up
several medical camps. I prayed to god that the Tsunami should be the first and last disaster that I should
witness during my life. It was not to be. I worked for Gujarat when parts of the state were devastated by
the earthquake.
Again came the massive earthquake in Nepal, I took a team from BMCRI to nepal, faced a few low quakes
in ritchers scale myself, stayed in ruins, operated on school benches, make shift UNICEF OT’s and donated
essentials in many villages of Nepal.
I thought I had seen enough but then came the Coorg and Kerala floods. Coorg being my favourite holiday
destination, I couldn’t help but pack my bags. We went several times and conducted medical camps and
helped in relief centres and also adopted a government school which had been completely destroyed in
the floods and rebuilt it. When the Pandemic struck, I was again back to being part of the team to tackle
the crisis.
As Yogi Berra said
‘IT AIN’T OVER TILL IT’S OVER’.
