Society of Plastic
Surgeons Meeting
I planned ASPS meeting as part of visit and it
gave me a wide outlook of the latest advances in
all areas of plastic surgery. The panel discussions
were great and led me to see solutions to a
problem through different approaches. The
cadaver dissection demonstration was very
informative and helped me to understand
the anatomy and surgical approach. I met
Dr. Michel Klebuc from Houston Methodist
hospital who is well known for his work in facial
paralysis restoration surgery. Since I have a
special interest in Facial paralysis and he could
arrange for me to see some cases for a day while
I was at Houston visiting MD Anderson Cancer
Centre. It was an opportunity well utilized.

I observed with Dr. Charles Butler who is the
Chair of plastic surgery at University of Texas
MD Anderson Cancer Centre. It is an enormous
hospital with numerous things happening at
the same time. A variety of microvascular flaps
for head and neck and breast reconstruction.
The faculty is very welcoming in spite of
hectic schedule. My experience here also
kindled my interest in lymphedema surgeries
especially after interaction with Dr. Mark
Schaverien. Remarkable work is being done in
Lymphedema here.
I had many discussions with Dr. Butler on
difficult cases and patient management
which I feel will improve my practice in future.
I admired the spirit of constant innovation to
do something new everyday even in simplest
of the cases.
