often tend to have an excellent grasp of anatomy, but when it comes to aesthetics – the shape

possibly an over exaggeration, it is true to say that the training received by plastic surgeons favours surgical
protocol over the development of spatial awareness.
Luke Shepherd is a Devon based portrait sculptor known for his commissioned bronzes including Billy
Connolly and Baroness Floella Benjamin. As an art educator Luke has designed and taught “Sculpture for
Surgeons” for the past 20 years.
The course is convened by Simon Withey MS FRCS FRCS(Ed) FRCS(Plast) and offers delegates a structured
training to learn to perceive, appreciate and understand the complexity of facial topography. This directly
assists the surgeon in their clinical work giving them the confidence to see shapes and forms more clearly
and achieve better results.
